Sightseeing in Vilnius will keep you busy throughout your short city break and you should start your journey at the Cathedral, built in 14th century. This impressive Roman architecture contains more than 40 artworks, crypts and catacombs as well as a museum that exhibits the history of the cathedral.                                                               

The Vilnius University should also be on your list of places to visit, founded in 1579, it has an amazing collection of buildings encompassing several hundred year's worth of different architectural styles, such as St Johns Church founded over 600 years ago with its unique alters and the Bell Tower.                                                                           

The Gates of Dawn on the edge of the Old Town are one of the most renowned sacred places in Europe and the last remaining gates of the cities old defensive walls, so do not miss it on your Vilnius city break.

Like a proper medieval city, Vilnius too had a castle, consisting of the Upper, the Lower and the Crooked castles. Unfortunately after suffering severe damage repelling several attacks over the centuries, it was never rebuilt, however the Lower Castle is currently the site of the largest archaeological excavation in Europe.
