St Petersburg has only been in existence for 300 years (the city celebrated its 300th anniversary in 2003) yet this former Russian capital has had an eventful history. In recent times the city has been renamed three times and has endured a 900-day siege by the Nazis. However St Petersburg still retains a faded grandeur and wealth of art and cultural attractions that draw visitors from around the world and make it a perfect city break destination.
We can offer breaks to St Petersburg from a selection of UK and Irish airports. Our St Petersburg city breaks time is on hand to offer advice tailored to individual requirements.

The design of St Petersburg was masterminded by Tsar Peter I “The Great” and because of this the city has a consistent style which you will not find in other Russian cities. The Winter Palace and Hermitage Museum are perhaps the most famous of St Petersburg’s attractions and are the ideal place to visit first on your St Petersburg city break. The Winter Palace was the brainchild of Russian Empress Katherine II “The Great” and is home to the Hermitage Collection which is perhaps the greatest art collection in the world. You could easily spend a day of your St Petersburg city break just marvelling at the wonderful paintings which are on display. The State Russian Museum meanwhile, which is also well worth a visit during your St Petersburg city break, is devoted mainly to Russian Old Masters and includes the stunning work “The State Parliament” which was painted by Repin.

Another notable attraction in St Petersburg is the Cathedral on the Spilt Blood which was built by Alexander III to commemorate the location where his father, Tsar Alexander II, was killed by anarchists and is similar in style to St Basil’s in Moscow with its brightly-coloured domes. There is also St Isaac’s Cathedral which was designed by French architect Nicholas Montferrand and still bears the signs of shrapnel damage from the 900-day Siege of Leningrad in World War II. You simply must see the view of the city from the top of the dome, as it will undoubtedly be a highlight of your St Petersburg city break.
