Whilst prices are high during Munich’s world famous Oktoberfest, the beer cellars are open all year round and you too can enjoy an hour or two sampling the delightful amber nectar whilst perhaps listening to one of Germany’s favourite brass bands and eating a delicious Bratwurst (sausage). Munich’s famous Glockenspiel is rightly famous, you can stand in the beautiful Marienplatz and watch in awe as the figures come to life and re-enact famous Bavarian events, wander around the mouth watering Viktualienmarkt where each day thousands of fruit and vegetables are sold. For peace and quiet enjoy the tranquillity of Munich’s famous cathedral, the Frauenkirche or head to the English garden, Munich’s largest park and an oasis of calm! Within easy reach of the city are the Nymphenburg Palace, one of the most beautiful churches in Europe, and the infamous Dachau concentration camp.
Munich is stunning at any time of the year – spring and summer are comfortable for wandering around the city – winter is usually snowy and Munich is a major gateway for those wanting to ski on the slopes of the nearby Austrian resorts.
