Fly direct to Pisa. On arrival make your own way to Florence. (Instructions on how to reach your hotel using public transport will be provided. Alternatively, airport transfers can be pre-booked at a supplement.) Spend the rest of the day getting your bearings in Florence.
Florence: For lovers of renaissance art and architecture, Florence is the ultimate destination. The Uffizi Gallery is one of the most visited museums in the world. Another must see is the Duomo, with the eight white ribs and terracotta tiles of the famous Brunelleschi dome. Get up close to feel the sheer magnitude of the structure. If you are feeling energetic, climb the 463 steps to the top where you can get an amazing view of Florence below. The Ponte Vecchio or Old Bridge is another world famous treasure. Should you wish to break away from the crowds, cross the Ponte Vecchio to reach the less crowded Bohemian Oltrarno part of the city with its many artisan workshops. In hot weather the ornate fountains, hidden paths and area of shade in the adjacent Boboli gardens can also provide a welcome break from the buzz of the city.
Check out of your hotel and, if time permits, enjoy a few final hours in Florence before making your own way to Pisa airport for the return flight to the UK. Of course, if you feel you haven't done justice to all that Florence has to offer you may wish to stay a little longer. Extra nights can be added to your holiday at a supplement.
