Helsinki is one of Europes most modern and forward thinking capitals. This young city became Finlands capital in 1812 and being located on a peninsula, wherever you go in this exciting city, you wont be far from the sea. There is a distinctive Russian influence on the architecture such as the stunning Uspenski Cathedral and the cuisine is as a fusion between Rusian and Scandinavian flavours. Interesting sights include the impressive fortress of Suomenlinna and Yrjonkadun Uimahalli, a beautiful art deco swimming hall.
