One of the city’s main attractions is the Cork City Gaol which is a fascinating place to visit - the story of how the prisoners were held in this desperate place chills the bones of many a tourist!  The city has lots of interesting museums, most of them offering free admission and the Lewis Gluxman Art Gallery is located on the college campus - not to be missed by those who love modern art!  St Finbarr’s cathedral in Bishop Street has a history dating back to 600 AD and dominates the skyline of the city.  If you are feeling peckish the Old English Market is a fabulous indoor market selling a huge selection of foodstuffs as well as retro clothes, jewellery, crafts and gifts.

The famous Blarney Castle is about 20 minutes from  Cork – built over 600 years ago by Cormac McArthy and is one of Ireland’s greatest treasures.  Legend has it that if you kiss the Blarney Stone, you’ll be blessed with the celebrated ‘gift of the gab’.
