What to see...
Travel to Barcelona you will see just
how well the city blends culture, nightlife, shopping and some of the most
unusual architecture in Europe. It offers a wonderful coastal location allowing
you to combine a city break with a fabulous beach. There is plenty to discover,
you will want to wander along Las Ramblas, the Picasso Museum, stroll in the
numerous parks such as Parc de la Ciutadella, Montjuïc (which covers part of
the mountain of the same name) & Parc Güell or just take it easy and head
down to Port Vell and the harbour. Even those not usually interested in
architecture will find themselves fascinated by the unusual and exciting style
of Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi, examples of which are found all over the
city. His trademarks are unusual shapes and multi coloured tiling said to
reflect natures curves and angles. La Sagrada Familia is one of the most
magnificent cathedrals in the world and despite Gaudi’s design being first
built in 1882 it has yet to be finished! Up close there are so many
intricate sculptures on different facades it is truly memorable and you really
should not leave town without having seen this stunning church for yourself.
After a busy day, what better way to unwind than to sit down and enjoy some
traditional Catalan cuisine, which combines the best of French and Spanish
cooking. Barcelona offers great opportunities to shop too. Try the Gothic
Quarter with its small boutiques & antique shops or head for El Poble
Espanyol situated in the Montjuïc park where you will find over 40 craft
workshops showing traditional and innovative design.
