Located in the Costa Blanca region of Spain, Benidorm has long been popular due to the year round climate, beautiful beaches and the warm Mediterranean Sea. With less well known picture-perfect fishing villages a short distance away, there is so much more to discover than its reputation for large resort complexes will have you believe. Relax or explore, whatever you choose to do, a Benidorm city break will surprise you. Summer months are generally more popular and the tourist parts of the city are full of live shows, cabarets and well-known acts, whereas the winter months are quieter and the city is more easily explored, but with year round flights to Alicante from 20 airports in the UK and Ireland, the choice is yours.
What to see...
The old town or ‘Casa Antiguo’, is a good place to start, although there are
only a few streets remaining there are some interesting buildings. The
Mediterranean Balcony, monument-viewing platform between two beaches, has some
fantastic views of the Mediterranean and surrounding beaches and is certainly
worth a visit. Approx 15 kms to the north of Benidorm is the beautiful fishing
village of Altea, which has a quaint little harbor with artist’s shops and
boutiques to explore dotted on the hillside. For the more adventurous, Mundomar
Park has some fantastic marine life including dolphins to seals and next door
is Aqualandia, Spain’s largest water park, with slides and chutes galore to
keep kids and adults entertained. If you like exploring there are some lovely
villages in and around Costa Blanca with good public transport links to the
nearer and worth a visit. The nearby Villaitana resort boasts two 18 hole golf
courses by Nicklaus Design.
