The principal city of Northern Ireland has recently been described as an unspoilt treasure by National Geographic magazine and one of the top 10 places to hold a conference by the Financial Times, clearly well earned accolades that will banish any doubts you may have about its past as a reason not to visit. Now rejuvenated and buzzing, there are flights from 25 airports on the UK mainland to either City or International airports and with a short flight time of no more than an hour, it is easy to see why Belfast city breaks are increasingly popular.
What to see...
Built to commemorate the centenary of the famous liner, the newly opened
Titanic Belfast® is an unmissable visit in any tour of Northern Ireland.
It is located in the heart of Belfast, on the slipways where
RMS Titanic was built. Wander around the city centre
and check out the architectural gems of the Queens University buildings,
Albert’s Clock and the baroque masterpiece of City Hall. One of the finest
buildings in Belfast is the Grand Opera House which plays host not only to
operas, but also concerts, pantomimes and comedy. The Linen Hall library is
certainly worth a visit to discover the history of Belfast. After all that
sightseeing you will be in need of refreshment, so we recommend whiling away an
hour or two at one of Belfast’s many charming old pubs such as The Crown Bar
for a lunch of fresh oysters and a pint of the black stuff. For some
excellent shopping, visit the boutiques of Victoria Square. If you prefer
scenic views, head for Cave Hill, Belfast Castle or Black Mountain which offer
some bracing walks with fantastic views over the city and beyond. If you have
never been to the Giant’s Causeway it is worth taking a day to head up to the
north Antrim Coast to see this incredible natural phenomenon. We would be happy
to arrange a hire car or a local hotel should you wish to stay longer.
