Located on the Costa Blanca region of Spain with its warm Mediterranean climate and short flight time from the UK, Alicante city breaks are popular all year round, and with direct flights from 20 airports in the UK & Ireland, it has never been easier to slip away.
What to see...
Alicante is definitely a city of surprises. Sitting on the top of Mount
Benacantil with spectacular panoramic views of the city, Santa Barbara Castle
is a popular tourist attraction. You can choose to take the lift, or walk up
and admire the largest collection of Spanish sculpture in the world. Next to
the cathedral is Alicante’s oldest church, the church of St Marys, the main
mosque during the Moorish occupation. The city boasts some world class
galleries and museums including the Museum of Contemporary Art (Museo de Arte
de Siglo XX La Asegurada) an Archaeology Museum (Marq) and a museum dedicated
to bullfighting. If you are in need of retail therapy then Alicante has
designer shops and major stores aplenty. Enjoy a leisurely lunch at one of the
many fish restaurants and stroll along the palm fringed promenade, or sit by
the marina and admire the yachting hardware, there really is so much to do.
Whilst sunbathing may not be your first priority on a city break the excellent
beaches within walking distance of the centre may make the opportunity to top
up your tan hard to resist. Did we mention golf? The Alicante Golf Club is a
modern 18 hole course designed by Seve Ballesteros, with several others within
a 2 hour drive. For something a little different take a trip to Tabarca Island
reserve, which was once believed to be home to pirates. and is a good base to
dive and see some marine life or visit the castle of San Jose.
